My School Crush...

Like the Mind Reading post in my other blog. (Click here) I've been intending to post this for quite sometime now, but never had a chance. But I think today, I'll muster courage and post it. What the heck!

I've had a fair share of crushes - right from school to up until now. And it makes very interesting reading. In this post I'm gonna talk about my first crush.

In school (read about 9th standard) I used to like this cute, plum, not so petite young lady. Lets call her NSPYL (not so petite young lady). I'm borrowing this style of writing from here. Its really cool. :-). Anyways, sorry for digressing. Now NSPYL used to sit next to me in my class and I used to secretly like it. Never told her about it, but thats the truth.

My school (it was a co-ed school) had a policy that 3 people used to sit in each row (the rows were pretty big), either 2 girls and a guy in between or two guys and a girl in between. Apparently, they said it helped maintain discipline, bcoz the gals were more sober than the guys. Actually it didnt really make even an iota of a difference. And I used to sit just next to NSPYL and another girl, who was kinda cute but I paid little attention to.

Anyways, NSPYL used to like a guy - lets call him "not-so-tall-but-dark-handsome" NSTDH. He was a couple-a years older to me and studying in my school and also he used to stay in the same building as NSPYL. And I used to stay in the next building in the same colony. I was real good friends with NSTDH.

NSTDH and NYPYL were from different casts and different religion and hence could not proclaim their so-called-love to the world. And since I was friends with both, I became their cupid messenger. I used to go to NSTDH's house regularly and he used to give me a chit of paper, which I used to dilligently deliver to NSPYL. And I used to get the response from NSPYL (because I used to visit her house often too..to get notes from school and stuff) and send the responses back to NSTDH.

Okay, let me clarify, I NEVER used to read their correspondences. But, playing the cupid messenger, I started to develop a crush on NYSPL. My uncle at that time had just come back from Dubai and he had given me an invisible pen and the invisible pen reader. In each of the paper chits I used to get from NSTDH, I used to scribble the the 3 magic words (it seemed magical to me then) using my invisible pen and then give it to NSPYL. (For those who cant understand....I used to scribble I love you)

It was an innocent boyish act, and I used to feel elated and on top of the world in doing that. I used to get an unnatural sense of satisfaction and joy. And I literally used to feel that I'm in heaven. Anyways, soon it was 10th standard and it was time to part ways. NSPYL was good in studies and she went to a better college and I (being not such a good student) went to a different college. And NSTDH went to UK with his dad to pursue higher education there.

I came to know later (through another common friend) that they had broken up on the last day of school (NSPYL's and also my last day of school). I lost touch with NSPYL for quite a while (5 years) when suddenly, I met her in one of the tutorials classes, while I was doing engineering. She was doing engineering too. But, by then I had lost my initial infactuation (I think thats what it was) and we just remained acquaintences. Also, she told me she had a boyfriend and things were going steady.

Then she married her boyfriend and recently, I came to know that she now has a baby (boy or a girl - I forget). And I'm still single and doing nothing but reminescing about how I had a crush on her!

Do I regret not telling her?? I dont know, sometimes I think I should've told her and "duniya gayi tel bechne". Some other times I feel - I did the right thing.

So many things going through a boy of 14's mind, but ultimately I think discretion prevailed over valour.
